Lustre paper has a semi-gloss finish - best described as halfway between gloss and matte paper. Direct light sources will still produce a sheen on the print surface, but not nearly as much as with traditional glossy paper. Lustre paper offers great colour vibrancy and detail, and has a pearl-like appearance. Lustre paper is touch and moisture resistant, and therefore less delicate than fine art paper.
Fine art paper has a matte finish. Colours and details are more muted compared to lustre, giving a more subdued look popular with fine art photography. Fine art paper has a luxurious feel and completely glare-free surface which makes for an excellent viewing experience. Fine art paper is not coated and is therefore much more delicate than lustre paper.
If you are unsure which paper to choose, Chloe recommends going for lustre which is closest to the appearance of traditional photographs and more durable.
